Plea against coin with Benazir's image dismissed

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday
dismissed a petition as withdrawn, seeking
directions for the government to stop issuing a
coin with the image of former prime minister
Benazir Bhutto.

Earlier, the LHC office had returned the petition
on the ground that the Islamabad High Court was
the proper forum for it, as the federal government
had been made a party in the plea..

Later, the petitioner was allowed to file the
petition as an objection case.

The petitioner, Asim Bhatti, submitted that such
a coin would set a precedent for the future
governments to issue coins with images of their
party leaders. He said the Quaid-e-Azam's and
Allama Iqbal's images should be retained on coins,
and that others' be barred from making it a practice.
