Three more arrested in alleged coin scam

Some people really never learn, federal prosecutors say.

Two men who were not arrested last year - when a dozen
colleagues were accused of running an $80-million
confidence scam - found themselves in handcuffs yesterday
facing similar charges, officials said. The scam
involved selling vastly overpriced coins to the elderly
as investments, prosecutors said.

U.S. Postal Inspection Service inspectors recently found
Jason Mosca, of Long Beach, and Jarret Stretch were
running the same scam elsewhere, prosecutors said.

When the initial arrests were made in November, officials
were unsure if Mosca and Stretch were simply salesmen
unaware of the scam, assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Treinis
Gatz said. But she said in federal court in Central
Islip that the two continued the scam at the Coin Zone
in Patchogue.

Michael DiBari, 49, of Merrick, was also charged with
fraud. Mosca and DiBari pleaded not guilty and were
each released on $500,000 bail, pending future hearings.
Stretch is scheduled to be arraigned today.
