Salvation Army finds $5 gold piece in red kettle

Posted: Wednesday, November 26, 2008

SIOUX CITY -- Salvation Army bell ringers have
struck gold as in a 1906 Liberty $5 gold coin.
An unknown donor deposited the gold coin in a
Salvation Army red kettle at a Sioux City
Wal-Mart.

Capt. Von Vandiver, commanding officer of the
Siouxland Salvation Army said, "What a neat
surprise to find this gold coin in the kettle.
This is a unique way to make a big donation to
the Salvation Army and we appreciate it very
much. We would be happy to find many more!"

The exact value of the coin has not been
determined, but an Internet search indicates
coins of this vintage are valued between
$300 to $350.

As of Wednesday, the Salvation Army had raised
$40,384 or 27 percent of it goal of $151,000.
This is slightly ahead of the same time last
year, but a key difference this year is that
Thanksgiving comes later this year and there
are five fewer shopping days between
Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

Also showing increases are the number of
families seeking assistance, with more than 380
families registering in the first five day, an
increase of 20 percent over last year.
Applications for Christmas food baskets and toys
continue until Dec. 5, at the Salvation
Army, 1415 Villa Ave.

What would be news is a holiday season going by WITHOUT the SA finding a
used condom in one (or more) of their kettles. I've seen tv/net news
>about this happening. Used as in VERY recently.

I don't blame them. You can't even go Christmas shopping without those bell
ringing bastards blocking the entrance of a store. They never park their
ass where the wealthy shop because they know rich fuckers will call the
police and have their sorry ass removed from the premises. 99% of the
wealthy refuse to give a dime for those in need. It's always left to the
poor and middle class suckers.

Please ignore and excuse the inappropriate behavior of Always Learning.
He is a troll, and I normally do not reply to troll posts, but I see people
making good will efforts to respond to this known liar, proven phony, and
piece of garbage. Google "it" and you will see how it has alarmed and wasted
the time of good people in support groups with fake posts claiming that
"its" thearapist has encouraged itself to kill itself, and in other groups
that "its" doctor has prescribed fatal combinations of prescription drugs,
etc. In every case the troll ends up posting vulgarity and attacking the
people trying to offer assistance. Please send abuse reports to
