and a Andrew Johnson that needs a much closer look.
That be the one I need a micrometer to measure the diameter. No Edge
lettering evident even under 4X sheep magnifying glass.
(forgot where my stronger lens are, will have to hunt those also)

10X+20X each bought on-line for less than $10.

I figgered to use the calipers to measure if the $1. coin had been filed
or sandpapered to remove the lettering

I've never tried scratching below the surface of one, but I suspect that
removing that much edge material would obliterate the gold finish and expose
a different color.
At the very least, it's virtually impossible to hand-file or abrade that
much of the edge and maintain perfect circularity. You'd see the
irregularities even without a magnifier.
But the simplest method is to stack a suspect coin on top of an unaltered
one. After removing that much material, the difference in the diameters
should be obvious.
What were the indications that these were proof versions? One obvious
marker for proof Presidentials is an artifact of the way that the edge
lettering is applied. Instead of running them through an edge roller, the
lettering is impressed using a 3-part collar that is squeezed onto the edge.
This leaves three distinctive vertical bars at the 10, 2, and 6 o'clock
positions marking the junction points of the three collar parts.

I've never filed on a Prezibuck, but I would think the color would be
uniform all the way through.
At the risk of using a word that will surely attract el Reamo,
Prezibucks may be homogenous.

the only remaining 'local' coin shop on my side of town. The Andrew
Johnson $1 US dollar I have has a VERY weak strike on the rim, a little
bit of it visible with enough magnification, but there is some of it there.
