This piece of metal is a coronation medal; it is not a coin and it is not
listed in most coin books. They were issued in several sizes and
compositions. The small bronze ones are the most common and were issued
to all school age children in 1953 (or am I confusing the George VI
medals?). Values range from a couple of bucks to $100 US or so
depending on condition, size, and composition. Of course, children are
not known for handling bits of metal properly...

If I'm not mistaken, it's the schoolchildren's medal.
Several million were issued in canada in 1953. Usually they are worth
less than a dollar (Canadian funds). They are very hard to find with
luster, though, and can be worth up to $10 in brilliant Unc.
