Around midnight I got an e-mail from the Mint offering 2009 Sacs in the $250
boxes. Sound like they've still got way too many in inventory to meet their
mandate.

They were available via the Direct Ship program, meant for people and
businesses who couldn't get dollar coins in sufficient quantity at
their bank, to get them into circulation.

Unfortunately, some people misused the program to get airline
frequent-flyer miles by buying excessive amounts of coins on their
credit card and returning them to their banks.

The Mint suspended the program for a while and blocked the most abusive
purchasers from participating.
