Some pics from my adventure in Zion NP with Chelsea:
http://people.csail.mit.edu/paulina/pics/2008/04_zion_apr/

We climbed Organasm 5.8 C2 "to the end of the difficulties" (3 out of
4
pitches) for a warm-up. And then Spaceshot 5.6 C2 (Chelsea actually
led
the 5.9 variation in the beginning), all whooping 8 pitches of it,
expedition-style, in 2.5 days. But we did it!

Highlights not necessarily pictured in the photos: hooking next to a
perfect hand crack because I ran out of gear, sleeping on a ledge and
on
the top, taking a leader fall on aid, cleaning roofs and the famed
space-shot, making love to the pig on rappel (less pleasant than it
sounds) and, of course, pooping into the poop tube.

In Chelsea's words, vertical backpacking - the most pain for the
littlest distance gain. Which reminds me, I really really love long,
moderate, FREE climbs! :-)

Photo-TR on supertopo also.

Cheers
Paulina

Looks like a great trip, Paulina! I especially like the rakish angle
on your helmet in photo 12.

me, i especially liked photo #38, entitled "my foot"
38_my_foot.JPG.html]

i've got the better part of a dozen shoeboxes filled with nothing but
shot's of my foot (mostly my left, as i'm right footed and most often
needed it to balance for the shot). i like them because they remind
me that i, once, was 'there'. that and either no one else was or they
weren't anywhere even close to nearby as i was loosing it.

which has nothing to do with your photo -- as all of the other photos
and the very clear focus of that photo make it clear that you were
nowhere near my typical foot photo mindset as you took your foot
photo.

zion is a remarkably pretty place, especially in spring. i've been
there a bunch of times, but only climbed there once. in august. i
got all dizzy and fell off of something trivial. i'm in no rush to go
back to climb. but i'd go back for a picnic in a heartbeat (in the
early spring or late fall)

me, if i was aid climbing (which i will only do if i am guaranteed
something galaxy class worth free climbing at the other end), i pretty
much only do aid on granite. aid climbing in zion, that takes, what's
the word i am looking for here... chutzpah. that's it, chutzpah.
your chelsea sounds like my lupo. in that we're both lucky (just
don't ever dare say i said so, promise me)

thanks for the TR and photos. fond memories of a special place (in
season...)

BTW: did you ever get that ice screw with the bent up teeth back?
did it grind out to something useful? do, please, tell me 'no' so i
don't have to make amends on the 5 or 6 bent up screws i once promised
to make amends on/for. ice climbing always looks really easy from
below, no?
