Greetings! I've been unable to read this NG lately so
I apologize if this has already come up. (I did a search
for "spam" in the subject line and didn't find it in the
last 6 months)

I've gotten unsolicited commercial e-mail (SPAM) from both
LiveAboard Magazine and Marine Chandlery
and www.MarinaUSA.com in the last few days.

They have obviously harvested my e-mail address
from this NG.

They may both have fine products and or services
to offer but I will never know because I
HATE spam and I really HATE spammers.
I will never visit their sites!

That little line at the end of their mail that says
"if you don't want to be on our list, do this....."
just simply pisses me off. We've all been told to
never reply to the address at the end of any spam
because it's another way that the spammer knows
he has a live active address.

Am I the only one around here that thinks it's
rude, and crude and just plain impolite to send
unsolicited e-mail to names harvested from a NG???

Thanks for the vent space!

Peace!
Dan D. Louisville KY
who gets just plain cranky thinking of how long
it is till Spring.....

Me too.

Any company that uses spam has branded itself as unprofessional and
uneducated, since most people object to spam.

The best way to make it stop is to complain to their service providers when
they do it. This requires learning a bit about how things are routed on the
internet, but it is not tough. For someone advertising a web site, you want
to trace the route (traceroute) to their site. The last hop or two before the
site itself will indicate the provider.

In the case of Liveaboard Magazine, I saw today that they are being hosted in
another country now, and the performance is horrible. A week or two ago when
they spammed me they were served by gate.net, but no longer. Spam complaints
DO work, and get people kicked off servers.

Once you find out who their provider is, you just forward a copy of their junk
mail WITH HEADERS to "ab...@domain.name". In my case, I sent a complaint to
"ab...@gate.net" and they replied promptly. My guess is they got kicked off,
but most providers don't tell you specifically what they have done.

When they took the 2nd amendment, I was silent because I didn't own guns.
When they took the 4th amendment, I was silent because I didn't deal drugs.
When they took the 5th amendment, I was silent because I was innocent.
Now they've taken the 1st amendment, and I can say nothing about it.
