Last year my insurance agent fouled up my boat policy so badly i'm
thinking of getting a stand alone policy from another insurance
company. West Marine Insurance gave me a quote of 165.00
for 1980 17 foot fish/ski boat with 70 hp. The only thing that looked
a little concernable was a 10,000 medical limit. I'm not sure if i'm
reading the quote right but it has 100,000 max liability limit but
10,000 on medical. Anyone had any experience with West Marine
insurance or could suggest any other companies that specialize in boat
coverages ?

BOAT/US also offers boat insurance, and if you join your local Power Squadron,
it has a reduced-rate insurance program, too. The Power Squadron deal with St.
Paul Fire & Marine is based on the premise that USPS members have more boating
education and are likely to be a better risk than people who haven't taken a
safe boating course.

I can give you a link to a web site with more information, but unfortunately it
is down at the moment because I tried to upload something that screwed up the
works. E-mail me if you are interested in the Power Squadron boat insurance
program and as soon as our page is back up, I'll send you the link.

I've insured my sailboat with West Marine for the past couple of years.
Their rate is about HALF of what other insurers quoted. About 2 months
after I started with them, through my own mistake, I managed to flood
the engine room, getting water into the engine and transmission. They
had a surveyor show up the next day, and he approved all necessary
"first aid" and repairs. They were very responsive, paid all costs
promptly, and haven't raised the premium! Needless to say, I am now a
happy and loyal customer.

In article <3725a...@news1.starnetinc.com>,

I have West Marine insurance (thru St. Paul). While I have
not had to file a claim, I like the fact that they insure
a full loss for the purchase price, not a depreciated amount.
