With the poor exchange rate plus the high cost of shipping merchandise
from the U.S., I find it less expensive to buy marine supplies from
local dealers but I was wondering if any of you know of mail order
companies based in Canada?

Thanks,
Andre

Hi, Andre. Try MMOS here in Halifax. Order desk is 1-800-565-6667,
voice (902) 479-3595, Fax (902)477-1584. I have dealt (retail) with these
people, and have been satisfied with service. etc. I cannot comment on
their mail order business, but I suspect you will have no problems, they
are keen to have happy customers. Catalog is about 70 pages, a call to
above numbers should get you one.

Oh, bonus, no PST!!!

I have no relationship with these people.

Good Luck!
John

In a previous article, ad...@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Andre Mann) says:

Andre
Try contacting HMP (Holland Marine Products)
3008 Dundas St. W.
Toronto, Ontario
M6P 1Z3

Phone: (416) 762-3821 or FAX (416) 762-4458

I have not done business with them recently but believe they are still
in operation. They are setup for mailorder and only deal with builders
and owners of boats. Good Luck!

I have had a good experience with Stright-MacKay Ltd., PO Box 1030,
Harbour Dr., Pictou, Nova Scotia B0K 1H0

Phone = (902)-485-4307, FAX = (902)-485-8779. They take C..D, Visa
and check (prepaid), unfortunately not M/C or Amex. Delivery was very
fast despite my having to mail in the check. They have an 88-page (plus
covers) catalog; it's a no-nonsense outfit which appears to aim for
the commercial fishing market (my dealings with them were last fall,
before the full impact of the fishery disaster, so I don't know how
the company is doing now).
