A bigger question is why the censors didn't catch it. There's a delay
for a reason. I see no harm in her flipping off the camera. Every kid
above five years old knows about that now days.

It was in bad taste, but much of American pop culture is in bad taste. I
thought Madonna's performance was spectacular, though, and some of the
commercials were terrific. Glad I got to see them without having to
watch the football game.

I thought the commercials lame compared to previous years. While I

I suspect it was all about getting 15 minutes of fame while in the

On balance I thought it was one of the best super bowl games that I've
ever watched - lots of good, clean fast paced football, very few
penalties or on field histrionics, a number of very spectacular plays,
and the outcome was still in doubt right to the last seconds of the
game.

Sorry Pats fans, Go Giants !

In addition to being a good musician, you also need to be a good
entertainer - two different skills. Of course you also need
motivation and opportunity. Highly motivated people have a way of
making their opportunities however. There are also people who don't
always recognize opportunity for whatever reason, or don't know how to
take advantage of it.

Here's your confusion. There is a difference between "performing" and
"playing". If you are by yourself, you have no one to "perform" for,

all PLAYERS are looking for attention", and I never said such. All
performers, however, are.

I don't disagree with that but you can do a great deal on your own to
make your "discovery" possible. That's what I call positioning, or
helping to make your own opportunities. You will not be discovered
unless you are out there performing in the right places at the right
time. It also helps to do some networking with people who can give
you advice and introductions.

Having a decent career as a session musician in Nashville puts him
well ahead of the average and is no small accomplishment. Not
everyone has the personality or stage presence to become a big name
entertainer. It sounds like he's done all the right things to
position himself for success, and after that you just never know how
things will play out.

Nashville is a fun place to visit. My wife and I spent a few days
there several years ago and had a great time. High up on our list of
recommendations would be the Blue Bird Cafe, "The Station", and "The
Nash Trash Tour".

up and we even had the luxury of an "in" as it were, or at least an ear
having a big label talent scout that lived in town/hung around with some
of the better musicians, etc... We had a remodeled factory with 6-8

I am predicting many more years of deals you can't pass up from our
Nigerian brothers.

Yes...that's good! I wonder how that'd look on the back of a Key West. I wonder if the Coast Guard
would believe me if I called in an emergency with that identification!

If they are working for the record company, they have the record
company's interest at heart, not the artist. It's really simple, I'm
surprised you don't get it. And artist is selling himself. Let's say
instead, he's a car and wants to sell to a car sales lot. Do you think
the guy who works for the lot would tell you that you aren't selling the
car to him for enough money?

For every musician that makes it, there's thousands upon thousands who
don't. I've known some VERY good ones who are more talented than a lot
of the "stars" of their particular craft and are as poor as can be. You
have to have been in the exact right place at the exact right time to
have been "discovered".

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is talent and those who can "Perform". Garth Brooks is not the best
singer, but a fantastic performer. Watch a video of his shows. Friends from
high school, were ok, could not get a gig at our annual New Years bash. but
later, figured out the "Perform" as well as how to write hit songs and made
it really big.
