Mercury Marine Announces Racing Sponsorships

Fond du Lac, WI, May 1 -- Mercury Marine is pleased to announce it is a
supporting sponsor of the 1998 American Power Boat Association
(APBA)/Baja National Offshore Racing Series and the 1998 Formula One®
PROP Tour tunnel boat racing series.

Mercury has a rich history with APBA Offshore racing, winning more
national and world championships than all other marine propulsion
manufacturers combined. The 1998 APBA/Baja National Offshore Racing
Series will feature Mercury and MerCruiser products raced in a variety
of classes, including Open,Factory I/Factory II and Stock/Pro-Outboard.

Mercury Hi-Performance and Reggie Fountain have joined forces in an
effort to recapture offshore's Open class national and world
championships. Fountain and throttleman Randy Scism will pilot
'Fountain/Mercury Racing,' a 45-foot Fountain/Skater catamaran powered
by twin MerCruiser Class 1 race engines coupled to 'dry-sump' Mercury
Racing Six Drives, in a commitment to regain the championships.

Over the years, APBA has contributed to the development and growth of
sport boating, culminating with the success of the Factory V-Bottom
Offshore Racing Series. The MerCruiser HP500 engine package is the
exclusive power for the series. Factory I and Factory II classes
feature single and twin engine sportboats, from 24 to 39 feet in
length.

APBA outboard offshore racing will be brought to a new level this year
with the introduction of the all-new 280 horsepower Mercury 2.5 EFI
Offshore Race Outboard. The engine is the exclusive power for APBA
Stock and Pro-Outboard classes.

Mercury Marine is the only marine propulsion manufacturer that supports
