The Glory Days of rec. boats.paddle featured in RiverRun
Hello all, Back in the late 1990s, about every famous and wanna-be paddler in the whitewater paddling world, posted on rec.boats.paddle. Scott Bristow and I were two of the most prolific writers on the newsgroup during those days, that Ken Strickland referred to as the "Scott-time." For those of you who weren't here then, Scott drowned at Great Falls of the Potomac, on the day before a group of rbpers were to meet over dinner at That's Amore. We still met for dinner, and I had to share the sad news with the group.... more »

Are the Eskimos still doing kayaking?
... Life's like a kayak or bicycle. That's why there's no fun in modern life.

In defense of Paganism
... Well, it seems to prove the value of cooperation. Once you study myrmecology (study of the ants) you'll realize I'm right... "Unthinking submission to the communal will promotes the fitness of the members of the tribe. Even submission to secular religions and cults involve willing subordination of the individual to the group.... more »

How can we keep Styrofoam and SUVs out of our cities?
Unless you live in a cage, you know Mayor Bloomberg it out to ban Styrofoam from NYC, and that actually sounds good. The irony is that SUVs do more to tarnish the image of a city and he owns one! People in Europe must be wondering why these Americans need a vehicle designed for the African savannahs in the middle of a city. Are they having an... more »

It seems we are all Jewish. Should I worry about it?
If the Bible is true, we are all Jewish or stem from Jewish ancestors. Maybe it's a reason to celebrate that we are all that close, or maybe it's a reason to grab a Torah and start talking Yiddish. I have tried talking to them and it's like they are in another world. Maybe they should catch up with the rest of the world and stop trying being... more »

America Should Declare Bankruptcy
(Drop the motorboat and get a kayak. That's lowering your expectations) We should admit our limitations and lower our expectations. I just said today that I'm a roach, meaning I'm insignificant riding a bike in a nation of consumers. Americans --once proud-- should also look at themselves and say, "Gee, we are broke," and go on with life. Maybe... more »

Currents in the Sea of Cortez - and charts!
I am planning a trip to the Islas Encantadas in the upper Sea of Cortez. On a previous visit there I was rather impressed by the currents and tidal ranges. I can find tide tables for Puertocitos, etc, but no current tables. Does anyone know if they are available? Also, does anyone have a reliable source for Mexican nautical charts?... more »

American Canoe Association Murders Are Profitable but Un-American
Rec.Boats.Paddle posters, in shame and remorse, note that the American Canoe Association Fraud with the 2 magazines and Mr. Broze below, is connected to RBP poster Dan, who is apparently threatening me for attempting to prevent the ACA from murdering more children in canoes and kayaks: "Maybe this is old news, or maybe no one cares. I found a... more »
