I thought that Amazon women wore hides, maybe some paint. I suggest that
you glue hides to your Mohawk, and apply paint to your face! That way you
can change the face paint as your moods change and the hides will protect
your boat from those unexpected encounters with rocks. Another nifty idea
is cover your PFD with hides to give your torso that Amazon look and for
the summer, fashion a hide to cover the lower parts.

Hello Debra,

I have painted a number of different canoes.  I would strongly recommend that you go to an auto body  repair shop and have them paint it for you.  I say this as it will amaze you how much bush stroked paint will slow your canoe down, also a 17' canoe will need about a quart and a half to cover it all and that will add 3lbs. A professional air bush job will add half that weight, no drag from rough paint stokes. A full job will cost around $75, if what you want is some highlights to jazz up the look probably $40.  If you are just going to go duck hunting go down to the hardware store and get some marine paint and go for it, but if you are going to tripping with your canoe please do it nice, you owe it to the people how have to look at your canoe paddle across the lake... and you will enjoy not having the extra weight and drag.  Good luck!

I take it you won't be joining us on our next trip for Amazons, Goddesses and
Water Nymphs too.

I've used vinyl paints used for models. You need to be
sure the surface is absatively and posilutely clean. Hot
Fuel-proof dope is also good. It doesn't last more than a coupla
years, though. You might try using the vinyl paints on
transparent acetate or mylar adhesive sheets, then sticking them
onto the boat. It might work better.
