Can anyone put up a stolen boats site?

I recenty had my Fury stolen, Uof Washington has a list of 100
stolen boats. Maybe a site could be set up to post serial #,
descriptions, locations, thumbnails?

Washington is having a bad year or something.
One of my freinds had her boat stolen too.
Post reports here, I'm sure that someone will track the boat stealers
down,

Who? The R.B.P Stolen Boat Police?
I'm afraid the majority of boats that are stolen are never returned,
even when they are recovered. We have a police auction every year like
many areas, and last year there were approximately 30 unclaimed canoes
&kayaks. Many still had their serial numbers intact. When I asked the
officer in charge of the sale if any attempt had been made to contact
the owners he laughed. If the boat was recovered where the report was
filed, there was some chance of a match. If the boat was stolen in one
city/state and recovered in another, tough luck.
I suggested to the officer that they could contact the manufacturers of
the boats when the serial numbers were still intact, and ask them for
the original owner information - this way they might at least be able to
return some of them. He asked me if I was going to bid on any boats -
and if not to please feel free to "stand over there out of the way,"
pointing to the parking lot...

Someone's got a little cottage industry in stolen boats going here in
Washington. In one week, my boat was stolen and 6 of my freinds' boats.
In the middle of a recent snowstorm, my friend Frank heard a strange car
in his driveway...when he looked out the window, he saw a guy loading his
boat onto a car. When he yelled at the guy (some choice words) the culprit
said "Never mind" and got in the car. He then sprinted across the lawn,
wrenched open the door, and got his hands around the thief's throat. Keep
in mind, that the culprit is now backing down his driveway!
As the culprit tried to make his escape, Frank grabbed the loose bowline
and went surfing down the street behind the retreating car, in 6 inches of
slush. In his slippers.
Alas, although he got the license # of the car, it too was stolen and
later found abandoned. However, he did get his boat.
I'd like to second the motion of the person who suggested that
manufacturers put in a non-removable serial # in BIG letters imbeded in
the plastic. I FOUND two boats this year, and it was fairly tough to track
down the owners. Four people in Washington have seen my stolen boat...but
unless one gets close enough to actually read the serial #'s, what are you
going to do?

It's been done. Even posted to the group I think. It's in my book marks.
Would probably do better if we all used the same one and took the time to
check it out. But I think when the truth comes out you will find your boat
went over seas.

buying a boat or have one for sale check it out.
I put my E-Mail and phone number in my boats just in case they take off
without me. I hope I did anyway in the Orange Hydra Minnow that took
off on it's own this winter , flood boating the main Umpqua in Oregon .

Some times police officers are a$$holes. Not to worry. If you loose your
boat, or its stolen, post it on this newsgroup, it covers the whole
country, and I don't think that I'm the only person who will look out for
someone elses boat. I know if my boat is stolen or lost, I would hope
someone would return the favor of looking for my boat, for me looking for
theirs.

Sometimes this just doesn't help. About two years ago, some paddling
friends (trip leaders) were headed up to Wisconsin for a Memorial Day
weekend w/ bunch of club members. They decided to stop at an outlet mall
north of the WI/IL state line and when they came out of the store their
blazer w/ a Dagger Dimension and his new Perception kayak were all long
gone. Needless to say it was a bummer of a trip!
I do try to keep my boats locked down on trips when we are not around,
but sometimes the SCUM just seems to win.
