Actually I have no idea how small Caterpillar diesels can run, in
particular these D399 models. I'm rather out of touch with the sailing
literature, but it used to be that the long distance sailors preferred
relatively small two (or even one?) cylinder units for auxiliary power.
These are heavy for their power, but efficient, safe and simple. Maybe
this guy is looking for sailors who have gone ultra-purist and dumped
their diesels in favor of oars and sculls.

A big enough diesel would do a very good job of quieting a jet
ski - especially if it weighs more than the ski displaces :-)

it's a engine mounted in a jarhead [the navy's slang for marine] that
crawls on it's little legs, before turning into a butterfly...

well, now that i reread this, it was funnier in my head...

Cat D379 Diesel engine. 3731 original hours. 565Hp, 1200 rpm. Generator end has been sold. Pics and video of engine running are available. Taken out of service Oct 9th 2014, stored inside.
