I have an Achilles 9 meter that two years ago I completely refitted
including replacing the existing engine with a Beta Marine BD722 19hp 3
cylinder Kubota diesel.
After a great seasons sailing (West coast of Scotland) and lay-up, all
three springs in the injector pump broke. There was rust on the springs and
this was the reason they failed. There was no water in the fuel nor was
there water in the sump/oil. Beta Marine told me that this had never
happened before and said there must have been water in the fuel. I replaced
the existing water trap (new) with another water trap also new, but bigger
and a lot more expensive. Beta Marine would not help with repair costs.
Once again after last seasons sailing and lay-up, the springs have broken
again. There is still no evidence of water in the engine. The fuel is clean
as is the oil in the bilge. Beta Marine have sent the faulty pump away for
analysis but will still will not admit any responsibility. They tell me
repeatedly that this has never happened before. Is that true. is there any
body out there with the same sort of problem. Especially with Beta Marine
or Kubota engines. All help gratefully received rogert...@compuserve.com
