I am new to newsgroups, so please forgive me for any faux pas I may
make!
I have been trying in vain to find a copy of the marine color code for
small boat electrical systems. Can anyone direct me to a source or post
it here? Any help would be appreciated, as I've work to do and tracking
everthing down with a multimeter gets tedious in tight spaces.
Thank you
Tom Perkins
It's no faux pas to ask questions. That's what these ngs are for.
The color codes in question are promulgated by the American Boat & Yacht
Council (ABYC). Which publishes its "Standards & Recommended Practices For
Small Craft" As you can guess, these standards cover lots more than marine
electrical work and are larger than some "small craft".
The sections which concern you would primarily be Sections: E8 AC
Systems... and E9 DC Systems..... There are other sections but these should
give you what you're looking for.
Portions of these standards can be found online at www.bluesea.com
The West Marine Catalog generally has a copy of the color code and some
other useful material for novices.
If you need one right away email or phone & I'll email or fax you the color
code.
Please note that these standards are voluntary and not all boat makers use
them. Buncha buttheads (marine engineering term). Also note the American in
the name. Not all boat builders are in America though lots of them still do
use the color codes as well as other ABYC Standards.
