Winterizing & thermostat questions
|
| |
I have a Mercruiser 140 hp straight 4 cylinder engine in a boat which I want to keep in the lake and have available all year. Usually it doesn't stay cold for long periods at a time here, but this year it has been freezing or below for about a week or more. I've kept the motor from freezing by using a handy little item... more »

router bit question
|
| |
Hello looking to do a fancy edge on 1 inch pine from the box stores. This wood is really 3/4 inch wide. The router bit catalogs all list 'height' or "carbide height". Does this include the roller on these bits? What sort of 'height' do I want for 3/4 wide wood? paul -

Term for the ornate stern of ships like HMS Victory
|
| |
My question might be too estoteric for this group, but thought I'd give it a try anyway. I am trying to think of the term used to describe the ornate sterns of ships such as the HMS Victory, with the windows and the gold scrollwork, etc. It's on the tip of my tongue - I used to know what it was called - but it just won't come to me.... more »

Replacing old alcohol stoves
|
| |
There are still many older boats with pressurized alcohol stoves. These stoves are very dangerous in my opinion but replacing them with the newer Origo type unpressurized ones is expensive and the Origo may not fit the space of the old pressurized stove. Years ago, I took the burners and rest of the fuel system out of my... more »

Portlights from G10?
|
| |
A previous thread mentioned Bronze portlights (absurdly heavy) and also plastic ones (maybe not strong enough) but the glass/plastic composite G10 is certainly strong enough. Might be interesting to try.

where to buy portlights?
|
| |
Hi group, My Gazelle is lacking portlights. The portholes are 8". I'm looking for a source for affordable opening portlights of that dimension. Ebay and google don't yield much. I can't afford bronze, so I'm open to all materials (including plastic) if they're strong enough for offshore duty. Regards,... more »

Cut and Fold Aluminum
|
| |
I hesitate to suggest this in relation to boat building except that you might be able to make some difficult shapes with this technique. (and create hard points) Braking aluminum can be a real challenge. Especially if you want to make a sharp corner in a long piece of sheet. A brake that will handle an 8' piece... more »

do all (most?) epoxies bond to each other?
|
| |
Will all epoxies bond to one another? I have some West GFlex, which I want to use thickened to fill a gap between two loosely-fit fiberglass parts, and some System Three laminating resin (Clear Coat, I think, I don't have it with me right now) that I then want to use with glass tape to reinforce over the surface of the joint. Will the epoxies... more »

Casting Resin - Epoxy Resin - Non Traditional (Revisited)
|
| |
I have read a bunch of different product and personal pages now on casting resin based on the recommendations of those in the other thread. I decided it was time to start a new topic since it has changed slightly. I'm actually intrigued with the process now. I have artistic ideas bouncing around inside my skull and I have the urge to try some of the legal ones.... more »
