can you tell me if you *find* a source for marine ply? As opposed to
fake marine ply (3 ply godawful stuff).

Try Robbins Timber, James Latham, Marineply.com, be aware you will have
to buy in bulk, if only to make the shipping bearable. If you have to
buy in a quantity too big, email me, I want to get hold of some decent
stuff but not in the quantities they want to sell it to me in, so I'd be
happy to split an order with you if you wanted.

Failing that, ring roung all the timber yards in the yellow pages, but
take a good look at what you're buying. most of what I've seen sold as
BS1088 marine ply is poor quality, check filled, thin outer veneered 3
ply. Horrible stuff. At 6mm you want 5 ply, I think at 9mm you should
go up to 7 ply, but check on that, 3ply at 3mm.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on, particularly if you're here in
the Northwest.

further to my earlier comments, marineply.com have just emailed me a
reply offering me

Far Eastern Marine Plywood BS1088WBP 6mm 2440x1220mm
10 sheets @ £14.63 per sheet plus £20 delivery charge ( price excludes
VAT )

which is highly competitive. I am intending to order from them in the
near future.

Doesn't sound that cheap, but price is dependent on quantity. In a pallet, 6mm
FE BS1088 redwood ply is only £10.54, rising to £15.53 for a single sheet
(Latham catalogue), so the above price isn't outrageously cheap. Before you
buy any ply, off to the library and read BS1088. Arm yourself!
Oh, and don't use Gaboon. You'll understand why after reading BS1088.

Good luck
