Hello,

I am looking for a distributor of marine (preferred) grade plywood in
the Bristol VA/TN area ( <120Mi ).

I have called around to the local lumber yards some can get marine
plywood but not in the thickness I want (1/4" and 3/8"). I even checked
for exterior grade Douglas Fir (A/A or A/B) but still no 1/4" and 3/8".

I am building a small (12') row/sail boat but I am not having any luck
getting the plywood.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

BTW, I did call a couple of places that I found on the net - the prices
were reasonable - but shipping charges blew the cost of the wood right
out of the water.

Tom.

In your area, nobody. You probably need to get it shipped in from Noah's
Marine or Bolter like the rest of us. If you are going to go get it,
Harbor Sales in Baltimore is going to be the best posibility. Other
than that Norfork is your best bet.

I called Noah's and it was $266 for the wood and $102 for shipping if
I picked it up at a depot otherwise it was $160 for home delivery. I
just can't justify that much in shipping charges. If I was buying $1000+
in wood that would not be as bad. Although not finding the wood I want
is fast becoming very annoying.

Did a quick search on http://www.woodfinder.net for Virginia and Tennessee,
and found these (don't know which is closest to you):

Yukon Lumber Company
Contact:Butch Christie
Address:520 W 22nd St
Norfolk, VA 23517
Phone:800-325-9663
Phone:757-625-7131
Fax:757-625-2022
E-Mail:sa...@yukonlumber.com
Web Address:www.yukonlumber.com

Didn't find anything in Tennessee, and the Norfolk address above is all that
showed up in Virginia ... I searched on "marine" and "marine plywood", same
results both times.

While on vacation two years ago, I happened to be in Roanoke where there is
a plywood distibutor. I don't recall the name or whether their was marine
ply in stock, but the sure had a wide variety of hardwood veneered ply
there.
