I'm rebuilding a little 16' ski boat and am about to the point of
reassembling it and painting it. So I've priced the paints and WOW! What a
surprise! I didn't realize marine paint was more valuable than gold. Does
anyone have any ideas about how much paint would be required to cover a 16
ft bowrider? Or how about a place to get a good polyurethane paint at a
decent price? Help is GREATLY appreciated!

Well, let's see here Banks,

I understand Weatherbeater goes on sale for about $11.95 a gallon, which
is probably more than you'll need....

If you want that shine, you'll pay the price, simple as that....

There are a number of things to consider, are you priming this one or
are you gonna forgo that step?

What color, some cover better than others although I'm kinda partial to
that flat white sash and trim paint....and how are you gonna deliver it
from the can to the boat? I've seen alotta methods believe you
me.....some have been more successful than others...:-)

According to the plans for a 22' Deck boat from the Clark Craft site
(actually a Stevenson Project) the finish is "...a good quality oil base
enamel. We used two coats for unexposed surfaces, and three to five coats
on the remaining exposed surfaces."

I personally haven't tried it yet, but if the designer says it will work,
then I'll try it.

I think I'm going to go with all white. I will use primer coat and will
most likely roll it on (that's why I was originally going to use a
polyurethane), howver I can spray it if I have to.

My key goal, as I'm sure is everyone's, is to get the best looking paint for
the cheapest I can. Not too much to ask, eh? ;-)

Hey Banks,

You certainly DO NOT have to shoot the paint. Brightside is a good
single-part brushable alternative.

With proper brushing skills, you can have get a finish that's quite
acceptable...

Like I said before in jest, you can also use house paint....many have,
believe me....
