Use of this group for boat building

On the post below by "Unlikely boat builder", the problem isn't spam. It is that no boat building posts are being made. This is in
line with "DougC"'s comment. I lurk here and have for a number of years. Many of the major boat building projects and those owners
have either completed their projects or failed and have since left. In these economic times, there is little money being spent on
this past time. I started building my latest boat in 1981. It is a 60' round hulled steel masthead sloop. It displaces 28 metric
tons on the DWL. It carries an aluminum monocoque mast 90" tall. It uses 5/8 rod rigging. It has a very modern parabolic shape
with a 19" 6" beam and a fin keel. It's almost complete. I have to change the pressure sea door frames as they are currently too
shallow and are mild steel. I have just finished the new ones made from 304 SS. Once installed, that will be my last steel job.
Then it will be machinery installation and systems check out.....the fun part. I will retire at the end of October, so I will work
full time on this project. I have lots of experience, as I have made my share of mistakes. I would be glad to respond to those
people who have an interest in boat building. Without people posting on topic articles, this NG will go away. I'm willing to help
keep this NG alive.

I enjoy lurking here as well. I am in the UK and fitting out a
narrowboat, so my trials and tribulations and many mistakes are not
really appropriate here.

That's quite a project, 29 years in the making. You must be looking
forward to getting it finished up. Any pictures online?

Does anyone know the status of Glenn Ashmore's boat? I've been
reading about that since the early 90's.

No, I have no pictures on line. I suppose I should, just never took the time to build a web site. Yes, 29 years is a long time. It
has been very difficult to maintain the personal discipline and focus the project requires. In the beginning I could close my eyes
and see the bow wave. Now, when I close my eyes, all I see is white paint.

The last I heard, Glen is sailing the boat in the Bahamas, but that was some time ago.

It is good to see that there is a location where those of us that are
new to the hobby of boat building can go ta ask the occasional
question.

I have just recently started work on a 16' cuddy. I have had to
develop my own full scale drawings from study plans purchased on line,
but things are starting to come along. At this time I have 4 frames
and the stem made, and have just recently purchased the lumber to
finish the rest of the frames and the keel. I look forward to being
able to get into conversation with folks and discuss my troubles and
also ask for advice when needed.
