I wonder... I spoke to my insurance carrier about this specifically (State
Farm). They will cover boatbuilding materials, under my homeowners policy,
and they will cover a complete boat (registered, i.e. with a tag number)
as a vehicle, but they told me they specifically would *not* cover a
paartially built boat. My agent didn't know why, but said it was

Good question. I have been working on my boat for over three years now

and it still has no specific insurance.

However.... it appears that my homeowners policy covers me. I sure they
would not have chosen to cover it if they knew, but the standard homeowners
policy appears to cover me so long as the boat is on the premises
(which it is).

If you find anybody who will write insurance, please let me know!

I am building on a friends property. He checked with his homeowner
Insurance and was told no way was it covered. You better check with your
agent.

I'm not exactly sure that this is what you guys were looking for since I've heard of insurance for independent contractors and such but not what some of you are asking. Anyway try http://www.contractor-insure.com/
