Dorion, Ontario Spring Birding Festival 
  For anyone who might be interested, this is the ONLY birding festival in Northwestern Ontario. This will be its 3rd year and it is 2 days of fun, birding, meeting new people, great food, prizes, auctions .... all kinds of goodies. Bird feeding score! 
  At my age and weight I'm not too light on my feet but yesterday afternoon I did a happy dance. With the extremely mild winter we've had so far this year I guess not as many people are feeding the birds and at least one of the local suppliers figured they had too much stock left. Hpoeing for ID help. 
  Linked below are two pretty clear photos of a bird that I photographed in May 1911 in SW Oregon. I doubt it is in anyway significant but this bird in the entire time i watched it (about 1 minute) had it's beak open. I have other photos but don't think there are any other ID markings shown on them that are not shown here.... more »

Male Hairy Woodpecker... on the patio? 
  I was visited by a male hairy woodpecker this morning. I'd scattered some mixed seed with dried cherries on the patio late yesterday. I also have suet hanging in a feeder from the shepherd's hook.
