Getting Sun Conure to exercise (fly) more? How?

I've been told recently that my parrot (sun conure) is overweight. She doesn't like to fly much and is tired after doing a couple of laps of my living room. Does anyone know how I might encourage her to fly more? She usually prefers to walk over to me or climb around. I don't want to start just launching her up into the air from my hand... more »

Actually the Deschutes River in the article is in Olympia, WA (yes, we have a Deschutes River in Washington). [link] Ring-necked ducks? Definately sounds like Oregon :) but it ain't!

For some reason no one is eating suet in my yard. I even put out a cake of peanutty suet that is usually gone in 24 hours and nothing. Very strange. Mary Ann Barnwell, SC

Osprey diving

Ospreys have returned to our lake in good numbers. Every now and then I hear a big splash. Have tried to get a photo of one diving, but never succeeded until the other day. Caught the stoop, but still missed the splashdown! See: <[link]> (I hope it displays properly this time)... more »

I found two frozen suet cakes from last year in my freezer. I also found two pounds of sealed lard in the fridge. Would you use the lard, or should I just chuck it? Steve

Not much happening...no birds, occasional squirrel, elderly cat sitting in the sun on the bridge, surveying his domain.
