Tailess gray squirrel

A recent addition to the endless supply of gray squirrels on
the deck. This little guy/gal is very cute, but also very
timid when there are other squirrels around. What's
interesting is to see a squirrel with no tail running away.
It hops like a rabbit.

Just my observations on a dismal day,

I wonder of it survived a fight with a vehicle wheel--that might explain
a missing tail and maybe messed up hip or pelvis (or what ever that
structure is called in squirrels).

I have one that has part of his tail and the very end is shriveled up and
dead with no hair. He is more timid around the other squirrels and they try
chase him away.

We've had a fox squirrel with only a 1" tail around the house and feeders
since last spring. We call him Stubby. Seems to be normal in all other
ways.

We also have a cat hanging around the backyard (grrrr) that only has
about 2� inches left of its tail.
