indexing slipping (force SRAM)
|
| |
I've been having problems with my rear derailleur system where the indexing seems to be slipping on its own.
It's a SRAM force with a 10 cog cassette.
That is, shifting becomes funky and I hear that sound when I shift. I often have to over-push the paddles to get onto a larger cog. Eventually I can't get onto the largest cog at all. (This in fact caused some consternation on one steep pitch!) Other gears might skip or the cog drops down to the next smaller one.... more »

How many miles/kilometres do you get out of a chain?
|
| |
...
...
You paid for two Campy chains and got 10k km out of the pair? That's only about 11% better than I do. I got 4506km out of my last X8 KMC chain.
There are guys on the Thorn netsite, where I hang out because of the good Rohloff info, who commute in all kinds of British weather and get 10K plus out of a chain, every time. I'm just about the hardest guy on chains there, especially considering my chain runs inside a completely enclosing case (Hebie Chainglider). If I use an open chain, a good one lasts 2200km and a cheap SRAM is lucky to see a thousand miles/1600km.... more »

Advice on bike to get
|
| |
...
If you can afford a little over a thousand dollars, the steel framed
Surly Long Haul Trucker is a very sturdy touring bike, and my 58 cm
has a really long head tube and allows a lot of handlebar height
adjustment as you get your form back and can tuck down more.
Oh... I see you balked at $700. Never mind. But I *know* these guys... more »

Garmin Edge 305
|
| |
My Garmin Edge appears to have died. Yesterday I downloaded a ride and
left it connected to my computer to charge. When It said charging
complete I removed it but it failed to come on. Also it won't
communicate with the computer. The computer behaves as if nothing is
there. I suspect the lithium ion battery died. Is this a reasonable?... more »

Stuck threads
|
| |
In an old 853 lugged frame with horizontal dropouts, the wheel position adjustment screws seem well stuck. There's the knurled end that I've tried to move, but fear I'll snap off if I excerpt more force, and the slotted end with the spring behind that I've tried turning with a flat blade screwdriver - but again fear snapping it. I've soaked them in... more »

custom wheels

Mentioned when I started reading this group I am a returning cyclist. Well, am progressing well in my re-found interest.
In the past 14 months, my weight has dropped from a high of 415 to under 280, and I'm still losing. Expecting to stabilize at about 250, but that will depend on final muscle mass, (I'm already quite happy).... more »
