Don't use them, but would try wd40. I use friction mode downtube
levers and don't have any problem.
Could just require cable adjustment at derailler, or : Cable

I forgot to mention light clothing and bike lights for dark winter
days. I am particularly insane: my bike is covered with reflective
tape (of the type often seen on the back of trucks), I have 5 yellow
coats of various thickness, and I have two front and two rear flashing
lights that run on rechargeable batteries - the cheapest lights work

Thanks for your (and other) replies. When I first saw it, it looked
something like a desecration to me. But after thinking about the YHWH
business, I can see how it works. I need to think about what I should
do myself in future.

Symptom of not freewheeling is from binding in the cassette
(or freewheel) mechanism. Run a good quality oil though it
to refresh its dried out or water contaminated slurry. Some

On multi-lane roads they will be restricted to right lanes only and
right turns only... and a speed limit slightly less than the rest of
traffic. That at least will be a start. *Any* vehicle above the size
limit will be subject to the same restrictions. Many urban routes will
be off limits to large vehicles altogether.

I haven't noticed any slip with studs on wet or dry roads. My tires are
all Nokians, so perhaps they are better than some in that regard.
They are heavy and stiff to roll. I don't particularly mind since my
mileage is so reduced in the winter that the extra workout feels good. I
used to swap wheels, but now I'm fortunate enough to be able to swap bikes.
