Interestingly, the dynamo for this Nexave C810 DI2 group is hidden inside the
rear freehub. I believe Sturmey Archer did it fifty years ago but it seems like
a new one for Shimano.
I knew about the Dura Ace DI2 group and the Nexus 8 speed automatic gear hub but
the availability of DI2 technology on a comfort bike derailleur setup is
complete news to me. Forgive me if it's been around for years. I don't get out
much.
I don't necessarily want one and I think it will be a while before it gets to
Australia, if ever, but it's interesting that Shimano made such a big jump to a
group quite unlike their pro road racer flagship. I'd have thought that Ultegra
would be the next in line for the DI2 treatment.
Personally, I'd be delighted if someone would devise an after market stepper
motor for a Rohloff hub so I can get rid of that clunky twist shift.

Europe and Japan are years ahead when it comes to vehicular cycling
bits. I remember getting the first Nexus Inter hub and didn't see
another in the states for three years. I'd catch cycling geeks having
good stares when coming to unlock my bike.
What I've seen in passing and would love to get my hands on at some
point is a Nexave cassette hub with roller-brake, but no generator
bits.
The reason for the technical advance probably has to do with the sheer
volume of such kit sold. Here in the US they move a lot of Sora and
Alivio/Acera kit--and it's really quite amazing at the price point.
Overseas, in the bike shops I've been in--gearhubs rear and dynohubs
front are the utility bike standard, and there's not a psychological
barrier to spending $1K Euro on on a city bike like I sense here.
