Unclear of the cycling connection, but the '52 historical events at
Donner are interesting. And snow for skiing for this winter is most
welcome.

The central Sierra Nevada, seen in these pictures is classically what
can randomly occur with the weather. We don't need to read the fate
of the Donner Party to understand its significance:

Thanks, good bit of history that fleshes out (very appropriate in this
context) the story of the Donner Party.

That does sound like a pretty awful place to live in. Yesterday it was
about 60 with 20 mile per hour wind. I thought that I was riding in
Antartica. We did a six mile climb with the wind behind. I was covered
to ride in 20 degree weather. It felt like I was riding in the Sahara.
On the way back down it felt like getting showered by one of those
train snow plowers.

That sounds just like El Paso. We hit high fifties to low seventies
most of the time. Its the morning in the 40s and 50s that is cold. Or
the 20 mile an hour cold winds even when the temperature is 55. Yeah,
I know, I'm a wimp. I want a low of 72.

My friends all leave at 7:30 to 8:00 AM. I leave at around 10:00 to
get some extra ZZZZs and let the sun warm things up a little. Problem
is that as soon as the temperature increases, warm air rises and cold
wind comes in under it. So I freeze no matter what.

Michelin / T-Mobile cross promotion, or is that Jan in the off, off, off, off
season?

Sorry, obviously just a guy wearing arctic gear under his jersey.

If you get snow, send some to Dallas. I haven't seen any in a long time.

With all that clothes, I doubt that they'll ride very far. I
especially liked the nose ring on the lead rider.

the unworking hyperlink is BC Ferries. The Canadian's and I are at
odds.
The BC cams are well lit: when the snow starts, you'll see flakes
Cam at Prince Rupert and cam at Vancovour cover a lotta winter
climate.

...and here it is:

http://video.dot.ca.gov/asx/d3-floriston-80.asx

If you hit it right, you'll see a UP freight passing toward the right
on the new right of way going west, or one on the old main going east
on the lower track. This causes left hand traffic for many trains,
including AMTRAK using the Donner pass route.

Years ago, Southern Pacific in a suicide price cutting move made a
single track ROW with better horizontal and lateral alignment, but now
that it's all UP it uses both alignments to achieve double track.
Unfortunately they didn't consider laying the other track on the new
ROW, so they use the ancient ROW for downhill eastbound traffic with
its curvy and steeper alignment.

64 and warm. Please keep the snow or if you send some to Texas, just
make sure it goes to central and east and skips the West. Also, keep
you cold fronts. The homeless have to go to the shelters where they
make them pray.
