Hit & Run Mountain Biker Kills Pedestrian!

Andre Steed was run-down by a bicyclist on a Center City street and
later died from his injuries.
Citizen's Crime Commission
Philadelphia police are seeking help from the public locating a
bicyclist who fled the scene of a fatal accident in Center City.
According to the Citizen's Crime Commission, who is administering a
$10,000 reward, the accident happened on October 15 at the corner of
16th and Locust Streets. The victim, Andre Steed, was struck a by a
mountain bike rider who did not stop after impact.
Authorities say Mr. Steed suffered massive head injuries and passed
away on October 24.
The law firm of Caesar, Rivise, Burnstein, Cohen & Pokotilow are
offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and
conviction of this biker. Witness at the scene described the biker as
a white male in his early 20s, weighing approximately 140 pounds
wearing a white hoodie with red spots in the back. The mountain bike
was described as white.

He was a road biker on a mountain bike. Therefore he was not necessarily a
mountain biker, and he certainly wasn't mountain biking. He was doing what
you approve of and encourage, Mike: riding on pavement. Do you recognize the
trouble you have created? You have made an honest person into a criminal.
You are guilty by association, a partner in crime, a henchman. You are as
guilty as he is. You amight as well have mowed down that pedestrian
yourself. Go turn yourself in. Please.

Hey Mikey, if you are really concerned about saving lives come read
about all the hit-and-run drivers in my blog and then tell me how to
make it stop. Andre Steed was the 2nd pedestrian killed by a bicycle
in the US this year, but we have been averaging 700 people killed on
bicycles by motor vehicles every year. Many of those were killed by
hit-and-run drivers. this incident has nothing to do with mountain
bikers on trails, this was a guy riding a mountain bike like object
(probably a BSO from Wally World) who ran into a pedestrian on a
crowded Philadelphia sidewalk. It would be like complaining about
people that drive Jeeps off road in wilderness areas because one SUV
driver killed a pedestrian on a NYC sidewalk.

I don't really think it matters what the guy who mowed this guy down
was riding. Whether a mtnb, roadie, or someone on their daily commute
to work. Either way the guy should have stopped to offer assistance
until the paramedics arrived. His mode of transportation is a side
issue. Generally, whether on or off road, the person behind is
responsible if you hit someone ahead of you unless there are some
extenuating circumstances which would then be called Comparative
Negligence/Fault. This is usually invoked when the person hit could
have, and should have, done something to prevent the collision. I'm
not saying this was a factor in this incident, just adding a
circumstance where the person struck "could" be held partially liable
for acting carelessly.
