Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has been suspended for one
year because of his failed doping test during last year's race,
according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
The suspension came from the Spanish cycling federation and Contador
has 10 days to make an appeal. El Pais also reported that Contador
will be stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title.
Contador has denied using performance-enhancing drugs. Contador blamed
the positive test for the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol on eating
contaminated meat.
The Tour de France title was the third for the 28-year-old Spaniard.
So if the suspension is from the date of the infraction (or later), Contador
gets virtual wins for both 2010 *and* 2011. Sweet deal. Three so far. He
could have had 4 if the Spanish cycling federation was more willing to help
out.

Lemond has some competition
>>Lemond has some competition
More than first mentioned. I forgot about 2006, when he wasn't allowed to
start the TdF due to allegations (later cleared) regarding Operation Puerto.
So he's already got *3* virtual wins, and could have had 4!
But wait, there's more. In the spirit of LeMond, who includes virtual wins
when he was ill, what might he have done if not for the surgery he underwent
in 2004 for his cerebral cavernoma? How much did that set him back? I think
we have to give him 2005, for sure. 2004 is a bit of a stretch. What do you
think?
2004- ? (Head case)
2005- Setbacks caused by aborted 2004 season +1 Virtual
2006- Operation Puerto. +1 Virtual
2007- Actual
2008- Astana exclusion +1 Virtual
2009- Actual
2010- +1 Virtual
2011- +1 Virtual
Do we give him 2004 or not? OK, 2004 & 2005 he would have been up against
Lance. I'm going to score him .5 for each, so overall we get-
2 Actual
5 Virtual
He has now tied Lance Armstrong. If the Spaniards had any guts, he would
have pulled ahead (with a 2-year suspension). What's the latest count on
LeMond though? Is he past 10 yet?

Dumbass -
Is Alsodirty Schleck the new winner of the 2010 TdF?
thanks,
Kurgan. presented by Gringioni.
Friends in Luxembourg report there has been celebratory horn honking
and drinking this evening.
(but that's just business as usual if you ask me )
2007 is already a virtual Contador win, since Rasmussen should have
won. So, 2007 and 2010 cancel each other out.

Hey, I sure thought the RFEC was going to let him go - I'm amazed they
caved to the pressure from the UCI, especially since it's now a black
mark on the "Year of Spain" in world sport. Maybe the cattle rangers
are a bigger lobby.
Now, all they have to do is go back through all of Andy Schlek's
samples and test them for plasticizer and exogenous testosterone and
we'll have a dope-free TdF champ.... maybe.
Very good point - more money in cows than velocipede racing.
A herd of cows stops a bike race cold, whereas skinny ass bike racers
boycotting Spanish beef would not even register.
R
Dumbass,
Adding supplements to their beef is a great way to increase
sales. The cattle ranchers are happy for the publicity. I
can see the ad campaign now... "Spanish beef gives you strength
to climb mountains".

Dumbass,
Red Bull gives you wings.
Not as big a dumbass as Walker Texas Rancher.
That guy really sucks
That guy could really beat your ass, you stupid fuck.
Really? My dad is tougher than your dad stuff?
Nagurski you were starting to get some respect in here and then you
blow it with the 3rd grade comment.
Maybe your grandpa took some tough knocks to the brain and your
epigenetics cause momentary flashes of stupidity in an otherwise flat
vaporous and mediocre brain function.
Normal rules of tough guy talk don't apply when the subject is Chuck Norris.
It isn't tough guy talk unless it comes out of the mouth of Chuck
Norris.
If Chuck Norris talks tough, people die.

... of boredom.
Once again we see a huge disparity between the way WADA affiliated
sports and non WADA affiliated sports handle their doping infractions.
AC got a year for a miniscule amount of clenbuterol and some people
think he should have gotten double that. OJ Mayo got 10 games out of a
single season for what amounts to a similar infraction (although the
amount of DHEA has not been made public that I am aware of).
Is AC more of a bad person than OJ (Mayo)?
If Steve Jobs did something for which the criminal penalty was a $10,000
fine (given the choice between that and 3 months in jail), vs a line-level
employee doing the same thing and having the same choice... let's see...
Steve pays the $10,000 fine, which isn't even a rounding error for his wine
cellar purchases, while the other guy either has to serve the time or take
out a loan and mortgage his future. Is that fair? Is it justice?
Point being, AC had to give up last year's TdF title, who knows how much
money, plus loses this entire year. He'd arguably paying a whole lot more
for his infraction than any other doper caught this year, including those
who got double the suspension.
Which is fair? What's the best way to deal with such things? I don't know.
But I think it's incorrect to assume that AC's one year suspension is less
painful or in any real way less punishment than someone else's two year
suspension, given what it's going to cost him.
I agree with the concept - like speeding fines in Scandinavia -
student gets 100 crown fine for 50 in a 30 and the VP at Nokia gets
$150,000 fine for speeding - hurts each one equally. (and before
anyone squawks this is socialism - it's not - it's pure fucking
captialism.)

Grandpa could beat your ass too, you stupid fuck.
Only on r.b.r could a person making a comment about their poor word
choice lead to two other guys entering their grandfathers in a cage
fight to the death.
Just wait until they get to their mothers.
Dumbass, this isn't rec.football.brain.damage. Do try to elevate your
level of insult to fit the surroundings. Thanks.

PS Sorry your foosball team lost, but that's no reason to be grumpy.
Try a fantasy league.
Everyone already got to Nagurski's mother ( badda bing ! )

You can't complain about the lead out.
It was a beautiful lead out.
