Sean Kelly and I were all set to rip him a new
one for doing so much work in chasing down
Schleck. And then he goes and wins the race
like a champion anyway. WTF!

I've always found Sean Kelly informative - I think the "new" guy is
better at getting useful information out of him than Duffers was - but
I was surprised he said that. At that stage of the race, if you want
to win it you have to go for it one way or another. Nobody else was
going to do the work so Gilbert's choice was either chase or be
damned. He evidently knew what he was doing! Pretty impressive stuff.

Schleck lost over 30 seconds on the Cauberg. Although that
is a hindsight view, in hindsight Kelly was correct that
Gilbert could have waited.

I bet if you studied races where a lead rider hits the
kite with a gap like Schleck had you'd find that most don't
win.

Maybe the problem is that Sean Kelly isn't correcting up to what
people are taking these days. Too bad Jalabert wasn't commenting, he
was around during a time which requires him to now correct down.
