looks like she's going downhill, but she's in a very low gear.

maybe she just crested the climb or could be the angle at which the shot was
taken.

Given the neck and back problems that lots of RAAM riders suffer from,
I'm surprised they'll let her use a recumbent. Seems like an unfair
advantage of sorts. Is it cheating, a moral issue, a sporting
violation, or something altogether different?

Mechanical doping.

Damn, how much does that chain weigh all by itself?

About 2.5x a regular bike's chain.

There's nothing unfair about using a recumbent in RAAM since
individuals and teams using them are in a separate category from those
using UCI legal bikes. The results reporting has gradually been
moving towards including recumbent riders with the others in the same
lists, but in the end, the records still show separate categories.

hmmm, I guess if I'd cared more about RAAM, I'd have known that
already.

Posting at all, much less twice, to a thread about RAAM is putting you
in grave danger of caring more about RAAM than you'd want to reveal.

Not really, I don't care about RAAM even a little bit. While I'm sure
it matters to people who participate in marathon road events, it
wouldn't qualify as even a momentary blip on my 'idle curiousity'
radar if it were announced that it were to never happen again.

The usual attempted 'bent hedgemony.
No "consent" here. Bents are bents, bikes are bikes. Not at all
difficult to tell apart and may "the records" always reflect this.

Again, I rode a bent. Once. No thanks, as long as I can still ride my
real bike.

Passive aggressive nimrod,

Please stop denigrating FRAAM by using limiting modifiers such as
"endurance sporting".
