Aren't the two of them in some recent movie? That's a more likely
explanation than paying them.

"Knight & Day" must be opening in Europe. Maybe it will do better
there than it did in the USA. These days, I doubt Cameron Diaz would
even make the cut as a podium girl at the Tour of the Gila.

Correct. Opens in just a couple days, and they're here to do promo work for
the film. They just happened to be in the right place (or wrong place) at
the right time. Staying at a fancy hotel in Bordeaux, same as a bunch of
high-up cycling folk. I didn't ask whether Cruise is a legit cycling fan or
not, but I'll see if I can find out when my friend is back from his current
cycling gig.
