Yeah, but terrible tragedy. Also I believe the tour is still in court with a
x-race director who they claim stole nearly half a million dollars from the
organization. Problems and more problems for this race. The problem with
this race is it seems to be poorly timed on the calendar and in a sort of
hard to get to place. While it's been called International, it has never
really drawn any solid International talent like Cali races. It does have
good prize money though, and TV sometimes. Nature Valley seems to be the
race with the best overall timing for peaking, drawing the best talent, and
it's had good TV at times with Phil and Paul on Versus. I saw the Tour de
Nez on versus the other day. What a joke. Half an hour split between men and
women. The women got little more then a few podium shots. However, if you
look at what happened at Liberty Classic this year, even more pathetic. The
women got like I think it was 20 seconds at the very beginning with the
cameras freezing on blond Emilia Fahlin out of the saddle for 5 seconds
before they cut away, never to return. The only race in the Prestige series
that got TV I believe this year was Nature Valley. Gila would actually be a
beautiful race to cover on TV. Very nice desert scenery. That's the race
that should be highlighted especially since the climbs are better.
