"This is not the way I would have wanted my career racing for Bjarne
Riis to end. I've ridden my guts out on the front for the team for the
last six seasons." (Stuart O'Grady)
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ogrady-rethinks-his-world-championship-build-up-after-vuelta-expulsion

I understand Riis being a bit ticked off that his team had been
essentially dismantled by a couple former employees, and transported to
Luxembourg. Why should Riis feel like he owes anything to those guys?
But O'Grady has a point. Six years at the front ought to buy you a
little bit of respect, I should think. Or maybe that would represent the
unraveling of the Riis school of management?

The question is, is Riis being the most-effective manager possible, even
considering the long term? Or is he acting out his own frustrations,
which might not reflect well upon the future team he has to build around
Contador?

If I were Contador, I'd be getting a bit concerned.

Riis appears very much like a frustrated little boy who throws his
toys out of the pram when frustrated. It is like a shop manager hiring
a son's girlfriend then firing her when she is no longer- though there
may be other legitmate reasons - but the appearance remains base. But
look on the flip side- his riders are leaving and thumbing their nose
at the boss and his rules for everyone else to see- must he tolerate
such behaivour for the sake of appearances ? Don't imagine either
Contador or Riss hold any illusions about the nature of their
relationship- prostitute and pimp. And when the relationship sours,
the question of who screwed whom is moot because they both did.

Riis may be suggesting to Contador "This is what you can expect as my
employee."
But the other side of that coin is, "See? This is how I will run
things to support you."

It would also seem he should still be acting in the best interests of
his sponsor and give the team the best possibility for a high result
in the race. It would not seem that he has done that. But maybe his
actions fall into the category of "any publicity is good publicity."

dumbass,

the contador - riis relationship will be an entertaining one.

contador is a consummate professional (i think he won every stage race
he entered this year ? ) but an entourage guy who will arrive with his
valet and domestiques and riis is a micromanager who wants to write
out riders' training plans and have them e-mail him their SRM files.

so i wonder how contador will react to riis's meddling ?

You've got your head up your ass.

The race is called (from the article you cite): Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré

Not sure whether DR was ignorant or pedantic but he should have said:
"Yes, although to be precise, the race is now called Critérium du Dauphiné."

Pedantic. I thought the name was made obvious from the title and first
line of the linked article without my having to point it out. I was a
dumbass for forgetting I was addressing dumbasses.
Thanks.

Maybe. Stay tuned.
BTW, I wasn't under the impression that MJ was seeking help
identifying which race he was referring to. It was kinda' obvious.
But since you chose to identify it, the least you could have done was
use the current correct name.
But we appreciate your efforts to insure that the RBR dumbass factor
does not drop below an acceptable level.
Thanks.
