JV is obviously googling himself way too much. He seems to be very
defensive and has very low self-esteem for a guy who was a successful
pro and even more successful team manager who built a pro tour team
from scratch. In the first half of the essay he wonders why he is
being picked on by sub-human internet gossip junkies. In the second
half he blames himself for jumping to conclusions about Tondo. He
doesn't say a single positive thing about himself.

After all the JV bashing for his retaliatory firing of Matt White, I
feel kinda bad for him, so I will say four positive things about JV:
1) He has his own style (copied from that one gay guy on Antiques
Roadshow).
2) A sensitive man, he writes good painfully personal and emotional
essays about his existential angst regarding his reputation and the
lack of respect on stupid internet forums (forums and newspgroups that
nobody but the posters even read).
3) He seems to bring the best out in his riders, who seem to like the
team atmosphere at Garmin. Also develops riders well.
4) I heard he was a good artist - oil on canvas.

I think if we all say a few good things about JV, it will bolster his
self-esteem enough
to be able to take a little criticism, or at least ignore all the
negative stuff - that's what Lance does.

Finally, when I think of JV I picture him in his castle near Avignon,
dressed up in his wool suit after a long day of painting landscapes,
sipping a nice Claret and reading a little Proust:

Vaughters owns up to having been an asshole, and you continue to be
one.

I'm saying that for your own good. You're an asshole. See? That's
twice as good.

So that's who Fred Sartre is.

dumbass,

yes. but the most annoying thing about this latest hand-wringing
column is that vaughters is constantly vying for attention, whether
it's with "transparency" on the lowe/white firing or his andre 3000
outfits.

in the sport the riders are supposed to be the center of attention,
not the managers.

Fugging band wagon - we found a clean rider -let's all embrace him and
then others will think we're clean as artic snow.

Don't buy it for a minute.
