Would it be any worse than if he was driving down the autobahn at 200
kph?

Is that even legal? If defibrillators aren't performance enhancing, I
don't know what is.

I'm pretty sure Andy Paulin got one after a couple of episodes back in
the '90's, when he got back into racing (masters - not elite). I heard
it went off a few times during hard training and he called it quits.
Hope it goes better for Kirchen.

I have a friend with one. It hasn't gone off on a ride but it did go off
once while he was sitting at home. Said it was like someone just
sucker-punched him. Not subtle at all.

Absolutely, anything that keeps you alive like food, water or air is
performance enhancing.
