Can VandeVelde TT his way back onto the podium? (assuming he doesn't
lose big chunks of time tomorrow, that is)

Anything is possible after that ridiculous performance today

14:5 odds, that's a probability of 5/19 of making the podium.

Here's a great odds page:

Nonsense, its 50/50.

Even if Vande Velde manages to bypass Schleck, Kohl, and Sastre, which
doesn't sound likely, he will still end up fourth because Kirchen is
going to make more then 8 sec on him. For example, last year Kirchen
beat him by 58 seconds.

He did not have 50:50 odds in the betting markets before today's semi-
bonk and crash.

It appears that Christian was only some 30 seconds behind the climbers.
Normally he and Menchov should have been able to close that right down on
the descent. But Vandevelt crashed losing most of that time.

There's a question about whether or not he can gain it back tomorrow as
well. He has been climbing very well and l'Alpe d'Huez isn't as steep nor as
long as this climb.

I am pulling for Christian big time.

I haven't seen the coverage, but when I saw the preliminary results I
assumed he'd blown, losing all that time. Hopefully he won't lose any
more time tomorrow, and maybe if he's lucky he'll gain some back. Who
knows???

I, too, am pulling for him.

Actually it's shorter but steeper, for a non climber that's worse.

VandeVelde has been bet down to 9:1, a 10% chance of podium.

Dumbass -

He and Menchov both dorked it today.

After major gaffes like they've made, neither deserves to win, and
they won't.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.
