So what does that mean about the Tour of California? It's not a "real" race
because? Or has it simply been overlooked?
Just trying to get something started about racing, y'know?

I can't comment on that, but am hopeful we'll get some ridiculously
high-res photographes from enthusiasts who see it.

Well I'm hoping it is a real race because I'm going downtown Monday to
watch the finish. I just hope it doesn't rain. Today it was
beautiful weather. I hope it holds out!
But I really want to get out Tuesday on Trinity Grade. That is a rude-
ass climb. (Although there are worse not far away.) I've done it.
Going *down* the other side isn't easy either. Too bad it isn't
closer to the finish.
Today beautiful? It was freezing ass cold if you were riding. Although it
was a good 15 degrees warmer today than it was a couple of weeks ago, it
actually felt colder when riding because of the high humidity.
It'll matter to the fans about as much as it matters to the racers. I
think we're past the point of being ecstatic to see riders like Bettini
and Simoni just show up and let the locals fight it out. It's OK with
me if Leipheimer or Zabriskie wins, but if all the other big names treat
it as a vacation it'll never "matter" on the calendar.
What is it worth in UCI points?
That's what makes races matter.

Professional racing is a marketing enterprise. Many factors go into the

But in the end, the real issue is the ability of riders to draw

A key to the success of a race is fan interest. People need to get out
and participate. I hope folks reading this within striking distance of
the race don't adopt the "it's better on TV" approach. Get out there
and be a part of it! Even a 5-second live view is better than a
50-minute view of glowing LCDs or flipping mirrors.
Other events, too, like the hillclimb on Saturday:

Saturday night is a pre-race event @ City Cycle:

Sunday night is a Floyd Landis event, for those who are interested:

The Sunday night LeMond-Liggett event on the 1989 Tour de France is sold
out....

Dan: Do you have more info on the Floyd Landis event? I could only find a
small reference to it on their website, with a link to the venue, but no
mention on the venue's site about it.

Greetings:
Some of you may recall my email from a couple weeks ago regarding a
possible Town Hall Meeting with Floyd Landis in San Francisco. Well,
that meeting day/time/place has been set, and his spokesman has asked if
I can help spread the word a bit, so...
Particulars:
Date: Sunday, Feb. 18 (yes, Prologue day for ToCA)
Time: 7 pm
Locus: Jillian's, Metreon, 4th & Mission, SF
Benefits: the Floyd Fairness Fund (FFF), going toward his defense
For more complete info, such as what's on the program and what
refreshments are included, go to www.floydfairnessfund.org. Those of you
who are on other club lists, such as BBC, if you can forward this
message to those lists, that would be great as well. Thanks for reading
it. Ciao.
Why, why, WHY did they schedule it for the same time as the LeMond gig? I'd
love to attend the Floyd Landis town hall. Dang. Even sent the guy a
Christmas Card.

I can tell you that there were at least three teams training in the foothills
around Gilroy and Morgan Hill yesterday.

I took off my shirt for the ladies.
I was born and raised in the Land of Lake Effect Snow. It is
downright balmy here.
Did you know Lake Effect Snow is caused 40% by the war in iraq, and
60% by global warming?
Yes, I've also discovered that world terrorism is a direct result of global
warming. Those Muslim extremists are really mad that we're destroying their
nice clean deserts with our warmth.
Actually we're creating more deserts.
Did you think that growing crops with irrigration would come for free?

Although the web site does not mention it, they ran an ad in
yesterday's Palo Alto Weekly indicating you need to call for
reservations. It looks like the event is free.
I think you have "Lake Effect Snow" confused with "Nov. 2006 election
results".
Must be a momentary confusion. I noticed that, in another thread, you
(quite sensibly) placed the responsibility for all this with "assbags".
I think we can all agree to that, so long as we're not too picky about
which particular assbags.
If we don't stand up and fight the lakes in Iraq,
eventually we will have to fight them here. Do you
want a future in which illegal lakes are swarming
into America to commit terrorist acts of weather?

I have something in common with Bettini. We both like to race bicyles
during our vacations.
