"Leipheimer's fans are an enthusiastic, if uninformed, lot," said industry
analyst Handel Barr. "They are upset Levi won't be allowed to start this
year's Tour de France, but they seem to have confused Assos with the Amaury
Sports Organisation (ASO) who promote Le Tour. I can only speculate this is
because Assos and ASO both use the letters A, S, O exclusively in their
names, are connected to cycling in some fashion and are European."
News of the crisis has prompted the Swiss government to try and intercede on
Assos' behalf.
"We're having trouble even starting talks. We tried to contact the boycott
leaders through the 'Let Levi Ride' website, but the people there were
unfamiliar with the boycott. They did offer us a 'pro deal' on some
Bontrager components. Unfortunately, the savings doesn't amount to more
than a pair of Fl.13 S5 bid shorts," said government spokesman Willelmus de
Fruentia. "As it stands", he continued,"the war between the ASO and the UCI
will be the only European war that hasn't made Switzerland money. That
would be embarrassing to have happen on our watch, no pun intended".
Hmmm...is this for real? It smells like a hoax to me.
> Hmmm...is this for real? It smells like a hoax to me.
You intuitive devil, you.

I dunno, I just skimmed it. Never realized there was an ASO/Assos
connection but I guess it makes sense. No Assos for me.
They must all be gay too, and we KNOW that's totally evil, since
there's "ass" in there so we must boycott them.

Which implies they must be liberals, which in turn implies there is a
liberal plot to sell svelte bib shorts to fat fatty masters to make them
look bad.
ASSOS very Scary outfit:
I've always been a bit suspect about Assos ever since
the 1978 World track championship in Munich.
That was when Toni Maier-Moussa and Hans Hess
brought out the very first anatomical skin suit that was
worn by Daniel Gisiger.
Toni Maier-Moussa had been doing funny stuff at the
Zurich Technical University with carbon fiber back
about then, and the US Department of Defense was
going to shut that experiment down but sadly never did.

Hey, lighten up.
They got sick with Dien Bien Flu over in Indochina and
I think ran into some bad weather.
Glad to see you getting with the program. Have some "freedom fries".
Make sure you listen to Rush on monday so you know what to think for

Dumbass -
Rush hates John McCain.
Who am I gonna vote for? I'm confused!
thanks,
K. Gringioni.
Dumbass -
It's real.
People get confused easily w/ acronyms, plus Assos ran an Ass.OS
campaign a few years ago.
thanks,

True - for now. It won't be long before he's supporting McCain just like he would
any other Republican candidate.
On the other hand, maybe Bill meant the band Rush...

That's a much better, and more recommended listen for sure, but they
are evil Canadians, and you might be un-American for listening to
them.

Totally true. Neil Peart was making phone calls in support of Ron Paul.
Freewill!
Actually, considering how much trouble candidates get in for picking
thematically inappropriate theme songs, one of Rush's instrumental works
might be a reasonable choice.
I wouldn't recommend YYZ, but the 2112 Overture might reinforce the
libertarian credentials of any candidate.

"In other newsgroups, they killfile trolls."
"In rec.bicycles.racing, we coach them."
Well the official Assos website claims they came
out with the first Anatomical skin suit.
I see that Krienbuhl got laughed at.
Nobody laughed at Gisiger.
Krienbuhl's suit was beat out by this:

I'd have to say that if any candidate used a Rush song for their theme music, I'd
be pretty likely to *not* vote for 'em. I recognize that Rush are good musicians, but
I don't like their songs. Anyway, there's so many Canadian bands that I like better:
the Guess Who, the Diodes, the Pointed Sticks, DOA, the Subhumans, Personality
Crisis, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Atomic 7, among others.
Skip their music. Make the candidates drive red barchettas and elude
double-wide robot roadsters. Winner gets the White House. It'd make a
great reality TV show too.
The Guess Who? I'll let you in on a secret: thanks to years of
can-con-quota overplaying on radio, nobody in Canada likes them.
On the other hand, you can imagine how popular a technically skilled
prog-rock band with a libertarian political outlook is up here.
My guilty pleasure is The Tragicaly Hip. I even like their pro-Maple
Leafs songs.

I can understand that. But I bet it took a lot of plays of "American Woman" before
that happened...

Like "The Lonely End of the Rink"? By the way, I forgot to list No Means No and
their alter egos, the Hanson Brothers (which sort of brings this back on topic, at
least from an rbr-centric perspective). The Hanson Bros. have plenty of hockey
focused songs, if that's your cuppa.
I remember a Canadian band; taught me how to count to four.
BTO, right?

Strange, from what Tom says I always figured The Hidden Cameras would be
the most popular Canadian band around here:

Incidentally, both tunes are great for those spin workouts on a $7000
bicycle while you're wearing full team kit.

In my role as spokesman for the musical taste of all of Canada (Amit
said it was cool), I can tell you we like the Lenny Kravitz version
better.
Which gives you an idea of how much we hate the Guess Who.

The most horrible thing in my CD colletction is definitely "Tour de
France."
It's not the Kraftwerk version.
That's because you live in the safety of the herd. You've never been
cast out or been a misfit -- Subdivisions is best as a metaphor:
----------------------
Subdivisions -- neil peart
Sprawling on the fringes of the city
In geometric order
An insulated border
In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown
Growing up it all seems so one-sided
Opinions all provided
The future pre-decided
Detached and subdivided
In the mass production zone
Nowhere is the dreamer
Or the misfit so alone
Subdivisions ---
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out
Subdivisions ---
In the basement bars
In the backs of cars
Be cool or be cast out
Any escape might help to smooth
The unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to soothe
The restless dreams of youth
Drawn like moths we drift into the city
The timeless old attraction
Cruising for the action
Lit up like a firefly
Just to feel the living night
Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory
Of lighted streets on quiet nights...

Personality Crisis is named after a New York Dolls song, so it is only
nominally Canuckian.
That is a good one. I think their cover of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" is pretty great too.

Oy, that's a lot of Guess Who hate. Kravitz's version is pretty rank.

Ehh, just doesn't do anything for me. Metaphorically speaking.

Of course that's where the name came from. Plenty of bands with names pilfered
from their root influences. Even though you'd be hard pressed to cite the Dolls as an
influence of PC if you heard them.

Muahahaha.
If you live in Fremont, you'll know in a week or so.

But was it John Tesh? Not listed here, though:

Wha??? Is zombie Poulidor shuffling into town to wheeze out his cover of
Kraftwerk's TdF?
Because one of their former members is a journalistic hack ?
