That article had me right up until they cited Pantani at the end of the
list of EPO martyrs.

Yes, Pantani got caught doping, but I don't think you can relate that
very well to his depression and coke OD.

Argh! and later in that article, Walsh uses the "pas naturellement"
argument against Basso for his Giro performance.

The Millar Line brought to life!

Are you kidding? Back when he broke his leg that time, Pantani was so
addicted to EPO, his body had stopped producing it "naturally". They
postponed his surgery to see if his crit would drop below 60%...and boy
did it ever. It dropped below 30! He almost died.

Pantani had transformed into someone who was totally consumed with
being on dope. His getting caught was completely humilating, and this
just added to the fact that he had the true personality of an "addict".
Could have been booze, crack, meth. You name it.

He wasn't a rider who had "ethical problems" with EPO, and then, in a
seperate compartment, problems with narcotics. That compartment is the
SAME compartment.

Isn't there a contradiction in what Walsh says here?:

>...Walsh said that an expert looking closely at Basso's effort
>in the Giro d'Italia would have suspected cheating.

>"You look at Basso's time gaps in the mountains and that's
>not competition, that's a distortion of competition," he said,
>adding that it's his opinion that no rider who has finished
>in the top 30 at the Tour de France in the last 15 years hasn't
>cheated.

If everyone's cheating, then cheating can't explain Basso's time gaps.

He was pushed into it.

It was all the doing of that Danish girl,
Christina Jonsson.

I can't prove it at this time but I have
good reason to believe that Christina Jonsson
is a Santeria Witch.

Someday I will make it to Cuba and Cesenatico,
Italy to hunt for the real answer.

Vittorio Savini president of Club Magico Pantani
will be a good starting contact for my quest.

Ronchi, Pantani's former manager may confirm
my fears that Jonsson is a Santeria Witch, which
makes perfect sense.

The rest of the behaviour sorta follows from that.

The ugly truth is there's lots of pretty destructive and
self-destructive personalities in pro cycling. Maybe not an inordinate
number, but they're clearly there.

I don't blame Pantani; like I say, his death had the trappings of a
fatal consequence of mental illness.

Ryan, that's the excuse they made up about Jose
Jimenez.

If anything's running loose in pro cycling it can only
be a Santeria Witch.

He had always appeared to me as fragile and unstable. Much too prone to
be elated and soon after depressed.

Keep this up and I might stop believing everything you write is the
absolute truth. Or start using your reality as my alternative reality-
yours is more interesting than mine. You somehow get Ann Margret into
this and I'll pay the franchise fees tomorrow. I'm a sucker for Ann
Margret...

Lemond was tapping her when he invented finite element analysis and the
internet.
