What makes Theo feel bad is probably that he had to leave Rabo for Skil
last year and didn't get a contract this year. He was forced to retire.
Why would they be? They are but one factor in determining performance.
Body size certainly has to figure in, efficiency would be another (and
those who know more about this than me can undoubtedly cite a few
different kinds of efficiency that would be relevant). As a training
factor, changes of VO2Max in the same person are probably a reasonable
predictor of changes in performance, especially for an endurance sport.
