I have test driven several bikes and the Giant (1999) TCR 1T really
felt better for my size than any other bike I have ridden. Has anyone
any experience or insight with this model? The dealer had it on sale
for $1099, but Bicycle Mag. 's BikeFinder shows list at $1,100. I
really trust the dealer so am I missing something? Do I need a
triple( I try not do many hills)? I saw a TCR 2R which list for $100
more.

Any help will be much appreciated!! I bought a $28,000 car 6 months
ago with half the work and energy I have put into this decision.

Wendy,

What are the differences in these models, and how much do you plan to
ride?

If memory serves, they're the same frame, but I think one has
less-expensive componentry.
$100 is not much if it's between 105 and Ultegra.

Bought the spousal unit a 2R a couple of months ago and she loves it. I
don't know what the differences are between the two, but the 2R has 105
throughout...Excellent bike (though she still wants to get a Klein to
match mine) - I would recommend it...

Thank you for your input!! They are both 105's through out. The TCR
1T (stands for triple). The saddle on 1T is Selle Italia xo and the
2R is Selle Italia Trimatica. Also the Headlebar on the 1T is
aluminum and the 2R is Cinelli Touch-E. The rims on the 1T are mavic
CXP 11 and the 2R is Mavic CXP 23. ???? Duh, I sure like the yellow
color of the 2R!!!

I like to ride as fast as I can for about 1 hour maybe a little more.
I use the bike for a good workout (no pain, no gain thing). I'm
thinking of inquiring about racing, though I don't have a clue what
I'm talking. I don't know when, where, how far, and all that stuff.
Finishing 147th out of 156 would be okay for starters. But I don't
want to spend over $1200 to finish 123rd out of 155. I like the feel
of the TCR 1T. It's compact and seems to fit me better. I think the
2R is about the same frame. I have not test rode the 2R. The guy at
the bike shop told me they have banned the 2R in some of the races
because in the hands of the pros it gives an unfair advantage. (Is
that a line or what?)

I have only been riding about 6 months and I have really shaped up as
well as lost a little weight. I really feel good about myself and want
to upgrade from my old Schwinn (Varsity). This sure isn't easy.

Thanks again for everyones help!

Wendy
