Teen's holiday ends with bicycle burglary
A 17-year-old Redding boy apparently didn't get the bicycle he wanted
for Christmas.
But he did get one early Saturday morning.
Unfortunately for him, Redding police made him give it back.
The boy, who was not identified by police because he's a juvenile, was
arrested on suspicion of burglary after he allegedly broke into the
Chain Gang Bike Shop on Division Street about 12:30 a.m., police said.
Police said the boy allegedly smashed a window at the business and
then stole a new mountain bike valued at $3,799. He also took various
bicycle parts valued at about $1,800, police said.
Officer Jeff Schmidt, who responded within five minutes to a burglary
alarm at the business, spotted the boy riding the Yeti-brand, carbon-
fiber bicycle in the area and stopped him, police said.
The boy ultimately admitted to the burglary, police said, adding that
the bicycle and bicycle parts were returned to the business owner.
The boy was released to a parent, police said.

Vandal uses mountain bike to smash vehicle's window

A woman reported to Upper Arlington police that her vehicle was
damaged while parked in the street in front of a home located in the
3400 block of Sciotangy Road between 1 and 7 a.m. Dec. 23.
According to the report, a mountain bike was used to break the rear
window of the vehicle causing $200 in damages.
The bike appeared to have been thrown through the window, police said.
Police said other damages included a number of scratch marks on the
vehicle.
UA police picked up two UA boys for curfew violation at 3:55 a.m. Dec.
28.
According to the report, an officer on patrol spotted two boys walking
along Woodstock Road.
When the two boys spotted the police cruiser, they took off running
between two houses, police said.
Officers caught up with one boy nearly 20 minutes later, when he then
informed them of the other boy's identity and address, police said.
Police said officers then went to the second boy's house and he
admitted to also being out past curfew.
According to the report, the boys were taken to police headquarters
where the first boy admitted the two of them had been involved in some
criminal mischief during the night on Bristol Road.
A woman living in the 1900 block of Elmwood Avenue reported to police
that someone broke into her vehicle while it was parked at her home
between 8:30 p.m. Dec. 26 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 27 and stole a number of
items.
According to the report, a $400 purse was taken containing $95 in cash
and numerous credit cards.
The victim also reported that a number of her credit cards were later
used at various locations, police said.
A loss prevention officer at a grocery store located in the 1900 block
of West Henderson Road reported to police that a woman who worked at
another store location for the same chain was observed shoplifting at
approximately 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20.
According to the report, the woman was observed via surveillance
footage stealing five cans of Similac valued at a total $50.
The store is considering pressing charges and the woman is currently
under investigation for theft at the store where she works, police
said.
A woman living in the 4000 block of Patricia Drive reported to police
that someone stole a Christmas wreath valued at $80 from her front
door between 7 p.m. Dec. 21 and 5 p.m. Dec. 22.
A man reported to police that someone stole a $2,000 trailer that he
had parked in the 3200 block of Riverside Drive between 5 p.m. Dec. 6
and 7:35 a.m. Dec. 21.
