passenger, I even learned a few things. Just one question: I thought
it was illegal to record and replay ATC comms publicly? It certainly
is where I fly.

I have no idea about the regulations, but the existence of places like
liveatc.net (which stream ATC comms over the internet from all sorts of
different places) suggests that it's legal, although nothing says they
couldn't be operating on the sly.

It's still quite legal in the U.S., thank goodness. A lot of other countries
have bizarre, archaic policies concerning ATC (the U.K. is an often-cited
example).
