Hi

Just got a new PC after limping along on my P133 for years and wanted
to start flight simming again, and wondered if it would be worth it to
upgrade from MSFS98 to FS 2002 (graphics improvements would be most
important to me).

Thanks for any advice.

As long as the new PC is a P3/600 or more with a 32 or 64MB video card,
I'd say yes. And you'll be amazed at the graphics difference between FS2002
and FS98. The screenshot forum at www.avsim.com will give you some idea of
what FS2002 is like.

I would say NO! You certainly dont HAVE TO HAVE all that just to play the
FS2002! I run it just fine-with everything set to high and real weather with a
P3 450mz, Nvidia TNTRiva card and 256 Ram---It runs fine-I alos dont use XP!

What are your new PC specs? as the other poster suggested, anything over
600MHz with at least 128mb would work well in FS2002, I guess 600MHz is
pretty much entry level now, so I'm guessing your processor will be faster
if it's a new PC? so long as the graphic card chipset and soundcard etc are
of reputable manufacturer and quality you should be good to go for FS2002,
and if your leaping from a P133 your going to see a quantum leap in
performance in all applications and simulation/games.

Enjoy

Colin

As you suspect, my new PC is more than adequate... 1.6 GHTZ, 256MB
RAM, 64MB video card, 19 inch monitor.

I guess my question is, are the graphics and features in 2002 worth
laying out the $50? I'm not really as cheap as I sound, just dont want
to pay for just another version.

I did look at the site suggested by an earlier post and the screen
shots do look awesome. And I heard there is ATC in 2002 which would be
cool. SO I guess from what you all have said, if my system will handle
it, it is worth the upgrade?

It is well worth it. I have an almost identical system. The
improvement over FS2000 is real, much smoother and much more realistic
textures. The improvement over FS98 is even greater. I still have all
three on the machine here, but there is no way I'd go back to Fs98 now.
FS2002 is by far the best sim yet released by MS.

In summary:
PRO
Much better graphics
Much better rendering of scenery and aircraft
Smooth, no stuttering or pausing

CON
The ATC sucks big time

I just loaded FS98 on my Dad's 333 Mhz Pentium last night. I couldn't
believe how bad it looked compared to FS 2002.
