If this the first picture of an F-22 like this? I love the shape and
the twin contrails!
The F-22 in this wonderful photograph is not flying at supersonic
velocity. It is flying at less than Mach 1.0 in the transonic range.
If it had attained Mach 1.0 or greater, then a visible bow shock wave
formation would appear. Since this is not the case, this F-22 has not
exceeded Mach 1.0.
The local velocity equals Mach 1.0 at the fuselage locations where the
visible shock waves are located. However, the freestream velocity
(aircraft velocity) is less than Mach 1.0.
Nevertheless, this is still a cool photograph.
