Does anybody know exactly what type of aircraft it was? I've tried
searching the Internet around but found no clue. As far as I know, it
was not a model which has ever been in service with the US air force.
Is it maybe a civil jet plane specially manufactured on commercial sale
or an unsuccessful prototype trainer?
I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
Believe it or not *S* . . . the plane is a heavily modified T-33 . . .
yeah you read that right, a T-33. The program was started by the
Skyfox Corporation in 1983, and was acquired by Boeing in 1986. Folks
were proposing that the many T-33's still around at the time be
modified by replacing the Allison J33 turbojet engine with two TFE-731
high bypass turbofan engines and installing modern avionics. The idea
was to offer the plane as a modern trainer and as a light attack
aircraft.
ISTR that Aviation Week even published a pilot report on the plane that
sounded pretty positive. Perhaps it didnt make any real sense . . .
but in a wierd way, I liked the way the plane looked.
Blue skies . . .

Believe it or not, that is an update of the venerable T-33 jet
trainer:
